Information storage and retrieval

I assume the information inputted by the user is stored on a server somewhere. How is the information accessed should the company decide to stop providing this service for what ever reason? If I used a spreadsheet that program is installed on my computer and I can back it up. No one wants to go an input all their information into a program that is controlled by an external source without some way of assuring access.
